Weekly Parent Note

March 16, 2018

Dear Fifth Grade Parents,
I hope you had a wonderful week.  I am not sending Folders home this week. I am emailing the info instead. Here are some things that will be happening in the next couple of weeks. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.  My extension is 1907 and my email is mwinchell@lla.org.  Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Melissa Winchell

Grade progress reports

You can check your child’s grade online any time you wish. They have been updated as of today. Please sign the missing work slip that I gave to them and return it to class by Monday.

Quarter Reward Field Trip

Our quarter reward trip is Friday (march 23).  We are doing an in-house field trip so there is no permission slip needed. If a student does not have 95% of their AR goal, is missing any work, or has any D’s or F’s, they will be staying in a classroom study hall to work.  If you have any questions, let me know.

Bake Sale

We are having a bake sale next Wednesday (March 21). The students all signed up to bring something in. I am attaching a list to this email that tells you what your child signed up to bring. The proceeds from this will go towards the science overnight trip. If your child does not bring in their bake sale item, none of the money earned will go towards their trip.  Everything needs to be dropped off no later than next Wednesday morning. If you can come help for part of that day, that would be wonderful. Please email me and let me know if you can come help.

Read-A-Thon

We will be having a class read-a-thon fundraiser on April 5.  The students can wear uniform tops and comfy pants if they bring in a minimum of a $5 donation.  They can bring in pillows, blankets, sleeping bags, exc. (anything they can carry themselves).  They can bring in their nooks and other devises to read on.  We will read all day.  This is a fundraiser so they can collect money from whomever you are comfortable having them ask.  There are incentive prizes for them if they donate, but I told them there is no pressure- they can choose not to donate if they wish.  All students will participate in reading with us even if they do not bring in donations.  All donations are tax deductible.  Please provide your child with the name of the person who donated money and their address so we can send out tax receipts.  I would love to have some parent volunteers to send in snacks for the students for that day.  Let me know if you are willing to send food in.  Part of children’s individual collected donations will go towards reducing the cost of their Catalina trip. If you have any questions, let me know.
